Bella Vista School of Music and Childcare
The intent of this assignment was to rigorously study a site within a neighborhood within the context of the City of Philadelphia as the basis for design. As a team, we were to collect, map and study existing systems that include environmental, infrastructural, demographic and cultural evidence, in an attempt to better understand the spatial and physical manifestations.
In an attempt to connect existing Fleisher galleries, we addressed the needs of the community by designing a kindercare and music school. By creating safe and secure urban childcare facilities, they provide opportunities for the social, intellectual, and physical development of children.
Designing a playscape that is architecturally expressive in form, is meant to be interpreted as a dramatic reinvigoration of the strength and creative energy of the community. The collision of angles and folds, create a series of moments both partial and whole. These fragmented forms make attendance fun and transform education into a form of play.
