SPRING GARDEN CINEMA
In support of Philadelphia’s commitment to become a greener and more pedestrian friendly city, a number of design changes were made to the area in order to meet future sustainable development requirements. A revitalization of the Reading Viaduct and Spring Garden Street, create a stronger connection to and between neighboring communities. With the opportunity to take over an amazing industrial artifact, and a major urban thoroughfare, this design marks the intersection of the two in an environmentally responsible way.
Following tradition, the competition materials are kept sealed until 10 days prior to the submission deadline. When they are opened each entrant works in a solo charette to complete the design and submit it back to the jury.
This year’s program was to submit visionary and environmentally responsible proposals through the design of a cinema, and urban park, and landscape proposals for limited section of the Reading Viaduct and Spring Garden Greenway.
